We are pleased to advise that a limited bulk waste collection service is set to resume for flats and main door properties, with a focus on providing a new request-only service from the beginning of December.
Running a request-only service means the council will no longer be collecting bulky waste from designated pick-up points on ‘bulk day’. Ahead of these new arrangements the council is currently undertaking a clean slate operation, removing build-ups of big items from known locations across the city.
Further details on how residents can make a request will be available soon on the Council website and via social media. After a request is made, householders will be advised how to present their bulk waste ahead of collection. Just leaving items on the street or in a back lane will be regarded as fly-tipping and the people responsible will be open to enforcement action.
Whilst available resources are limited, it is still the intention to arrange an uplift within 28 days of a request, however, an appointment based system is in development that will specify when the uplift will take place.
During the pandemic, many housing associations have removed items on behalf of their tenants and tenants are advised to check with their landlord for up-to-date information on local arrangements for them.
Residents can continue to visit our Household Waste Recycling Centres, and if items are in good condition, residents can also use Zero Waste Scotland's National Re-use Tool and donate these items to charity.
We appreciate that the pandemic has been an exceptionally tough time for everyone and are grateful for the resilience shown by the city while the bulk-uplift service has been suspended. The vast majority of people have responded in positive ways, either storing their items safely or taking them to our waste centres. Housing associations have also been a great support, clearing items put out by residents and helping to keep their communities in good order.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support.
